PyPath

For business

More drawing work with the same people.

PyPath teaches your drafters and engineers to build their own Revit tools in 12 weeks. Less repetitive work, fewer mistakes, and a reason to stay. They learn Python for it, ten minutes a day, with exercises from building services and greenhouse construction.

The app's lessons are in Dutch for now; English lessons are on the roadmap.

The problem

Drafting hours are expensive, and people are scarce.

Every week, hours go into repetitive work in Revit: filling in parameters, making schedules, checking that everything is right. A script can do that work. The figures below are from the Netherlands.

The route

From the first line of code to a button in your own Revit.

Honest per step: what is there today, and what is still to come.

  1. Learn

12 weeks, ten minutes a day, with instant feedback.

    In the app
  2. Practise

Real Revit API names on a simulated model, with no risk to your projects.

    In the app
  3. Build

An own library per trade: heating, water, greenhouse construction.

    Trade packs coming
  4. Use

The library as a pyRevit extension in your own Revit on Windows.

    Coming soon
  5. Share

A team licence with an invoice, management and progress per employee.

    In preparation

Cost example

What is it worth, with the learning time included?

Assumptions: €75 per hour all-in, 15 hours of learning during working time (€1,125), PyPath Complete (€249.99) and 44 working weeks a year. Together about €1,375 per employee. How much time a tool saves is an assumption until we measure it in practice, so enter your own figures.

Per employee, after the 12 learning weeks
Saved per weekSaving per yearInvestment paid back after
30 minutes€1,650± 37 working weeks
1 hour€3,300± 18 working weeks
2 hours€6,600± 9 working weeks
3 hours€9,900± 6 working weeks

Without the learning time (purchase only), €249.99 pays for itself in just over three weeks at one hour a week. We prefer to show the honest version.

Peace of mind

The two questions every director asks.

Who maintains the scripts when someone leaves?

The library lives in your own folder, in readable Python with explanations. Everyone who has done PyPath can read and change it. That is easier to hand over than a large Dynamo graph only its maker understands.

So start with two people instead of one: then the knowledge never sits with a single person.

Is it safe for our models?

Practice happens on a simulated model in the app, never on your projects. PyPath collects no data and works offline.

In Revit a script only does what it says, and changes go through a transaction you can undo. pyRevit is free and open source; your IT department decides whether it is installed.

Alongside what you already have

A complement, not a replacement.

PyPath does not replace a building services package such as Stabicad or MagiCAD, nor Dynamo. It is for what your package does not do: your own checks, schedules and house rules.

  • Your own model checksPipes without a system, empty parameters, open ends: checked the same way every time.
  • Your own schedulesLengths, counts and material lists exactly the way you want them, including to Excel.
  • Bulk workStatus, comments or numbers on hundreds of elements at once.
  • House rulesYour own conventions captured in a button everyone can use.

Learning to operate Revit itself is done with a training provider; PyPath is the next step. Stabicad, MagiCAD and Dynamo are trademarks of their owners; PyPath is not affiliated with them.

Starting with a team

Start small, then scale up.

  1. Two people do week 1 for free

No purchase, no account. Ask them after a week what they think.

  2. Whoever is enthusiastic becomes the champion

They build the first tools and help colleagues get started.

  3. Buy per person, or wait for the team licence

Today: everyone buys and claims the expense. The team licence with an invoice is in preparation.

Costs and reimbursement

Less than one training day per employee.

  • PyPath Basis: €99.99 one-time, the full 12-week plan.
  • PyPath Complete: €249.99 one-time, Basis with the three trade packs (coming soon).
  • For comparison: one classroom training day usually costs €600 to €1,100 excluding VAT in the Netherlands, and your employee is away from work that day.

Reimbursement. In the Netherlands an employer can reimburse training tax-free under the work-related costs scheme (werkkostenregeling, the targeted exemption for training). The employee buys PyPath in the App Store and claims the expense.

Invoice and certificate of participation. App Store purchases are per Apple ID; buying in-app purchases in bulk through Apple is not possible. An invoice in the employer's name and a certificate of participation will come with the team licence, which is in preparation.

Employees who would like PyPath can send their manager our ready-made letter.

Who makes PyPath?

PyPath is made by someone from building services engineering for greenhouse horticulture who works with Revit. That is why the exercises are about pipes, greenhouses and facades rather than textbook examples. PyPath is independent of Autodesk and of the pyRevit project.
